Thank you for visiting!

Art washes from the soul the dust of everyday life
— Pablo Picasso

I began building sculptures in the fall of 2012. I had long thought about the time when I would find the opportunity to express myself creatively through this exciting medium.

As a kid I wanted to be an architect. I loved to think creatively about shapes and spaces. The soaring skyscrapers of Chicago always fascinated me.  In high school math it was in geometry class where I thrived. I was a student at Northern Illinois University in 1968 when they installed a large sculpture by Alexander Calder. I immediately became fascinated by his decidedly whimsical abstract approach and flat geometric constructions. My avid appreciation of abstract art was born. Later, I came to marvel at the cutting edge architectural structures being built all over the world. I became fascinated by the dramatic angular designs of I. M. Pei and  the unusual perspectives and soft folding curves often seen in the work of Frank Gehry.

I have chosen wood as the central material for use in my sculptures. Wood, for me, is both familiar and exotic. Wood provides so many interesting varieties of grain and texture, allowing each piece to balance and enhance  the full composition - embroidering a perspective into each sculpture which ellipses most of our everyday human concerns. I am committed to building sculptures which will celebrate and enshrine the importance of trees/wood to our very existence.

I hope you enjoy viewing my sculpture. I certainly have enjoyed creating them.

ARTIST STATEMENT:

“My art is about creative exploration. I am uplifted by the idea of creating something that has never been made before. I continually seek new ways to use my wood craft to push boundaries and turn my imaginative ideas into tangible objects that embody my unique sense of elegance and beauty. I design and build sculptures to fully experience and appreciate the dynamic process it becomes. My overriding goal is to leave a tangible legacy for my brief time on earth.”
